When was the last time you made a decision so bold and unexpected that people around you did a double-take? Well, here’s mine—I enrolled and have been accepted into nursing school! Yes, you read that right. I have decided to add a nurse to my practice, and that nurse will be me!

Now, I know what you might be thinking: Why? At 62? My question for you is, why not?
Life is about growth, evolution, and saying yes to opportunities that expand our horizons. For me, this decision wasn’t made on a whim. It came after deep reflection, prayer, and a burning desire to enhance my understanding of health, wellness, and aging, not to mention the genuine love of learning! As a clinical nutritionist and health coach, I’ve spent years guiding women to reclaim their vitality. Now, I want to take that knowledge further—integrating nursing into my practice to provide an even greater level of support, especially for women navigating the unique challenges of aging.
Of course, when I shared the news, there were questions:
“Isn’t that a bit... ambitious?”Yes, and that’s precisely the point! For me, aging isn’t about slowing down—it’s about choosing which mountains to climb next.
“Won’t it be hard?”Absolutely! But since when has hard ever been a reason not to pursue something worthwhile?
“Will you fit in with all the younger students?”Oh, I have no doubt I’ll be the class mom (or grandma). I’ve been there before and will do it again. I’ll bring my life experience to the classroom and hope to show that although I am an older student, we share the same desire to succeed as students and the expected challenges, such as dreaded test anxiety and studying overload- which I am well acquainted with!
“What on earth are you thinking?" I believe that pursuing goals doesn’t have an expiration date. I love learning and cultivating skills that enable me to understand better health and illness, including the importance of life’s purpose—to live a well-lived life.
So, why am I sharing this? Because I want YOU to think about what dreams, passions, or new beginnings you’ve been putting off simply because of your age. Maybe you’ve told yourself that the time has passed or that new adventures are for younger generations. But I’m here to tell you—forget that nonsense.
Age is a number, but passion is timeless. If there’s something in your heart that calls to you, go after it. Sign up for that class, start that business, write that book, paint your first masterpiece, and travel to that place. There is no “too late” when it comes to personal growth.
As I embark on this journey, I invite you to follow along, laugh with me, and maybe even get inspired to take your own leap. Let’s redefine what it means to age—with courage, curiosity, and a whole lot of enthusiasm.
Here’s to bold moves at any age!
With excitement and gratitude,
Carla
This really resonates with me!! Thank you so much!
